Bigsby III, DDS Maxillofacial prosthetics is a subspecialty of prosthodontics that involves rehabilitation of patients with defects or disabilities that were present when born or developed due to disease or trauma. Currently, there are eight ADA accredited programs in which a fellow is trained in the subspecialty. Maxillofacial prosthetics affords one the opportunity to practice in dynamic settings while treating a vast array of patients. This lecture will highlight the careers of recent graduates of maxillofacial prosthetic programs. The positives and negatives of this advanced subspecialty training will be explained to allow for a better understanding of the opportunities and limitations presented by an additional year of training.
