The Advent of 3D Printed, Polychromatic, Monolithic Digital Dentures
Presented by Toshiki Nagai, DDS, MSD, FRCDC
This presentation explores the evolution of complete dentures from traditional fabrication to contemporary digital methods, including both subtractive (milling) and additive (3D-printing) manufacturing techniques. It will delve into commonly used 3D printing technologies, providing a comparative analysis within the presentation. In particular, the use of material jet technology in fabricating polychromatic monolithic dentures will be outlined as a novel approach. The presentation will articulate the design principles, benefits, clinical challenges, and future development opportunities associated with 3D printed polychromatic monolithic dentures in dentistry, augmented with clinical examples.
At the conclusion of this session, attendees should be able
to:
- Describe the evolution of complete denture manufacturing techniques.
- Examine common 3D printing technologies used for complete denture fabrication.
- Identify limitations and opportunities for 3D printed polychromatic monolithic dentures.
