Learning to See: Art Principles for the Prosthodontic Practice

This webinar explores core principles of art - seeing, observation, form, light, and perception - and their relevance to prosthodontics. Through an artist’s perspective, attendees will examine how visual awareness and perception influence clinical decision making and esthetic outcomes. This presentation invites prosthodontists and general dentists to refine how they see their work and recognize the artistry inherent in their practice.

At the conclusion of this program, attendees should be able to:

• Identify color, light, and perception from an artist’s perspective
• Recognize artistic observation skills relevant to prosthodontic practice
• Understand color the language of color (the 3 dimension) and how it relates to accurate shade matching

Biography: Todd M. Casey is an artist, author, and teacher from Lowell, MA. He has authored the best-selling books, "The Art of Still Life," and "The Oil Painters’ Color Handbook," and periodically writes for the Artist’s Magazine and International Artist’s Magazine.

When not painting, writing, or illustrating, Mr. Casey teaches at the Lyme Academy of Fine Art and through private online classes and workshops.

Biography: Dr. Despoina Bompolaki is a board-certified prosthodontist and currently serves as Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Clinical Systems at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. She holds a certificate in prosthodontics and an MS in Oral Biology from Texas A&M University. She is a member of the ACP Board of Directors, serving as Continuing Education Division Director. Her clinical practice is focused on prosthodontics and implant dentistry.
